Welcome to ozelaw!

Welcome to ozelaw, the Australian environmental law blog.

The aim of the ozelaw blog is to bring you news, commentary and analysis on environmental law in Australia from a range of experienced and passionate Australian environmental lawyers. (If that's you and you'd like to become a contributor to the ozelaw blog, please email me at ozelaw - at - yahoo - dot - com - dot - au).

I've set up the ozelaw blog because there doesn't seem to be any online source of up-to-date information and, in particular, discussion, comment of trends in Australian environmental law. Hopefully this will become a forum for all those interested in environmental law and environmental policy in Australia to learn and share their thoughts and experience. Hopefully it will also be a resource for people looking for general information on Australian environmental law.

I don't intend to do much writing here (I'm busy enough with work, study and my other blog, the Oikos environmental economics blog), hopefully others will step up!

Please feel free to contribute and discuss. Enjoy!

Hello. I was one who tried unsuccessfully to fight the Waubra Windarm in central Victoria. (The windfarm company were trying to get 50 up and ended up with 128.) Cement is the greatest emissor of Co2 in the world and each turbine is held in place with a swimming-pool size cement slab. Scientists have also found that turning rotors use up moisture in the air and we are in drought. Next year (2009) the windfarm is turned on and many houses are within hearing distance of these massive turbines, not to mention glint (strobe lighting which has been proven overseas to cause epilepsy) and the protected and other birds that will be affected. The landholders went ahead and signed flawed contracts and the winfarm company sold off to a spanish company. We neighbours are all dreading the noise etc. next year and I know for a fact that many neighbours have been to solicitors to discuss their options as to damages for in particular, noise and land devaluation, which has been the cause of much litigation overseas.

What a load of rubbish. Emissor isn't even a word.
